Starting out using acrylics and oils, Ringo was creating paintings for many years before he decided to start composing art on his computer in the late 90s. This “Greenwich” invasion is not as intense as the band’s arrival on American shores more than 50 years ago, but Glaser suspects the art will open a few eyes.These artworks showcase his visual talents as never before. His bold faces and figures, and graphic symbols are as loose and groovy as his work behind the drum set. His forward outlook, and embrace of modern media means he continues to evolve and adapt his style. Starr, meanwhile, became a trailblazer in computer art, becoming an early adherent to MS Paint. He wanted to ensure his colorful landscapes and faces, often abstract, spoke for themselves and did not gain entry to gallery walls because of his celebrity. Despite numerous offers, it took him some time to exhibit his first show of more than 70 oil paintings was in 1999. McCartney began painting in earnest in the early 1980s, at the age of 40. (Another set is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art.) In the parlance of music, they are rare tracks. In the mid-1960s, at the height of Beatles fever, he released two illustrated, well-received books, “In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard in the Works.” His sketches were a visual diary of his life, full of whimsy and pensive reflections, self-portraits and the faces of people, and creatures, real and imagined. Lennon began to sketch and draw as a child, earning entry into the Liverpool College of Art at 17, where he studied for three years. This penultimate convergence for fans would have been a musical reunion after the Beatles disbanded. It’s the first show in the gallery’s new space on Greenwich Avenue, and the first time these works by all four of the Beatles have been together in a show. This work has led him to Greenwich, where he is presenting signed works by three Beatles: McCartney, Starr and John Lennon, and a set of George Harrison song illustrations by British musician Keith West that are signed by Harrison.
